The objective of Maritime Transport Sector is to fulfill the needs of national economy related to maritime transport industry. It also aims at developing the industry and setting the necessary plans for raising its efficiency and performance quality to cope with international developments.

Its Strategy includes developing and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian commercial and specialized seaports based upon the analysis of current status and making optimum use of the available capabilities to achieve the necessary integration according to Egypt's Vision 2030.

Historical Background:

Several decrees were issued for the establishment of Maritime Transport Sector since 1961 when its name was "The General Egyptian Maritime Transport Authority", the Presidential Decree no. 985/1972 for the establishment of "Ministry of Maritime Transport" and finally the Ministerial Decree no. 425/2016 for setting the competencies of "Maritime Transport Sector".

Main Tasks:

1. Setting the general strategy for all seaports to be submitted to Ports Supreme Council for adoption and follow-up.

2. Representing Egypt in international organizations and forums.

3. The establishment, development, and follow-up of the operation of vessels tracking systems.

4. The award renewal, and cancellation of the licenses of maritime transport activities
