It is one of the ministry of transports agencies , which controls many of the seaports which extend on the shores of the red sea and gulf of suez and gulf of aqaba which have a prime location on the world trade track.

And oversees many of the specialized ports in the fields of petroleum, mining and tourism , an integrated plan for the development and modernization of the red sea ports was prepared in order to enhance.

Cargo and container handling and double passenger and tourist numbers these ports are located in three governorates :

  1. Suez governorate (port tawfig - port zeiteyat )

  2. red sea governorate (hurghada port - safaga port)

  3. south sinai governorate ( nuweiba port - sharm el sheikh port - taba port )

Damietta Port is considered to be one of the most important sea ports on the national and regional levels on the Mediterranean.

Damietta Port has been an important trade hub for Egypt's external trade since 1850, prior to the construction of Suez Canal. The presidential decree No.317/1985 on the construction of Damietta Port was issued, after the completion of the new Damietta port construction in 1985.

The total area of Damietta Port is 11.8 million square meters, of which 3.9 million square meters for water surface area and 7.9 million square meters for land surface area. This ratio goes in line with the global ratio between the two surfaces.

Damietta Port features an 11.4 km straight entrance channel open for navigation all year round, a multimodal system which connects the port to a network of highways and the Port is connected to the River Nile via an artificial river channel with length of 4.5 km and depth of 5m. The Port is connected to the key network of railways. The Port is also connected to the key network of road transport.

Damietta Port features the application of Automatic Management System, which includes all port activities. The port also applies the ISPS Code. The Port is considered one of the green ports on the East- Mediterranean region as the port cares about creating a clean environment via the various operating systems focused on the environment.

The Port includes (7) Specialized Terminals with total quay length of 6600 meters:

  1. Gas and Petrochemicals Terminal.

  2. Container Terminal.

  3. General Cargo Terminal.

  4. Dry-bulk and Liquid- bulk Terminal.

  5. Multi-Purpose Terminal.

  6. Grain Terminal.

  7. River
